Terra clay paints and how you can do a project in 2024

One of the classes we are planning to start this year is for Terra clay paint. Marie likens it to finger painting for adults with the way the paints blend and swirl; she loves painting with Terra clay paints and wants to share the joy you can find using them.

Terra is an artisan clay paint with no rules and is available in 18 striking colors. Clean your project with Terra Clean and then take total artistic control. When you are happy with your project, then seal it with Terra Wax, Terra Tuff or Terra Seal to lock in your artwork.

Terra clay paints are eco-friendly, have low VOC’s, hs a matte finish when dried, and is fast drying. For best drying results, keep the environment at 77 degrees F and 50% relative humidity. Cooler temperatures, higher humidity, paint thickness, and/or poor ventilation will extend drying time.

Here are the steps to use Terra Clay Paints:

Thoroughly clean the piece with Terra Clean.  Lightly sand piece if necessary. Paint the first coat of Terra Clay Paint and allow the first coat to dry 2-24 hours depending on the thickness before applying the second coat. After the second coat, wait 24 hours before applying Terra Wax, Terra Tuff or Terra Seal.

You can creat texture by applying thicker or thinner coats and using tools such as spatulas, fingers, natural bristle brushes, etc.  Here is the coolest thing about using Terra Clay Paint: when your finished and decide to change the look, just apply water and the paint can be reworked until you are satisfied, then seal it with either Terra Wax or Terra Seal.  Store your paints at temperatures between 50-70 degrees F.

Here are some tips for using Terra wax on your project:

Apply a small amount of wax on a natural bristle brush like Best Dang Brush or La Perit Brush using small circular motions until the entire piece is waxed. DO NOT brush back wax. After 2 hours you can use a finishing pad to remove any excess wax. After 24 hours, buff the entire piece using a buffing pad for a tough seal and shine. Your project will dry in 24 hours and cure in 30 days.

And here are some tips for sealing your project using Terra Tuff of Terra Seal:

With both products after letting your piece dry 24 hours, simply brush a very thin layer using a Dixie Belle synthetic brush or Blue Sponge and allow the first coat to dry at least 2 hours and then applying a second coat. The final coat will dry in 24 hours and cure in 30 days.
